Normandy is a region rich in history and tradition, offering an infinite variety of landscapes between sea and countryside. It is also famous for its long sandy beaches and UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as the spectacular Mont-Saint-Michel.

Rouen, the capital of Normandy, is a city with a vast historical heritage that has seen William the Conqueror, Richard the Lionhearted and Joan of Arc pass through its streets, as well as Impressionists such as Monet, who were captivated by its picturesque lanes. But Rouen is also a university town (with almost 30,000 students) offering a wide range of cultural activities to suit all tastes.

Its proximity to Paris, only an hour away by train, makes it an ideal destination.

Our partner language school, French in Normandy, is located in the heart of the Jardin des Plantes district, on the left bank of the Seine, 3 km from Rouen’s historic centre and cathedral, and 12 minutes’ walk from Rouen’s largest shopping centre. It has excellent metro and bus links, with several stops close by.

The teachers are all native speakers, qualified Masters FLE and have several years’ experience teaching French in France and abroad.

Courses

French courses: general information

• Length of lesson: 60 minutes
• Maximum number of students per class: 15
• Timetable: lessons are generally given in the morning or afternoon, depending on the type of course
• Level test: online before the start of the course, oral test on the first day of the course
• Certificate of attendance at the end of the course

Semi-intensive course

15 hours of general French 5 hours of language workshops per week

Morning general French classes are based on oral communication and the study of the structures of the French language. Classes run from 9.30am to 1pm, with a 30-minute break from 11am to 11.30am.
Teaching covers all aspects of the French language: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Phonetics, vocabulary and grammar activities are also taught.

Levels offered: beginner to advanced

DELF/DALF exam preparation courses

Intensive course

25 hours of general French 5 hours of language workshops per week

The course includes the semi-intensive course module which runs from 9.30am to 1pm, with a 30-minute break from 11am to 11.30am 2 hours of lessons per day from 2pm to 4pm.

Afternoon lessons are organised around a series of workshops to improve specific skills and study cultural themes:
Monday: Vocabulary and reading
Tuesday: Reading and writing
Wednesday: Listening, French lifestyle and culture
Thursday: Listening
Friday: Speaking

Levels offered: beginner to advanced

Free optional language workshops are offered at the end of the afternoon, regardless of the course chosen, to improve confidence, fluency and intonation and to put into practice the new skills acquired in class.

Activities / Leisure

In addition to the language workshops offered in the afternoons, the school organises half-day or full-day excursions on Saturdays. These excursions are offered at cost price and vary according to the time of year.

An orientation tour of the city is organised for students on the 1st Monday in the afternoon.

Examples of possible excursions:

• Mont-Saint-Michel, Bayeux (tapestries), D-Day landing beaches, Giverny (Monet’s house and gardens), Versailles, Camembert cheese factory, etc.

Accommodation

Journeytime to school: between 5 and 40 minutes on foot or by public transport
