Language studies for young people in San Diego
San Diego is considered to be one of the most liveable cities in the USA, with a very moderate cost of living. Its mild climate, sunny skies, pretty beaches and numerous islands and peninsulas attract an international population.
San Diego, just 20 minutes from Mexico, boasts numerous golf courses, tennis courts, beaches and a huge water park. The San Diego region offers a unique geographical diversity, with both the alpine landscape of the Laguna Mountains and the dry, hot desert air to the east.
This programme is ideal for young people aged 14 to 18 who want to improve their English and enjoy all that Southern California has to offer.

The summer course is organised by our partner school in San Diego, located on A Street, right in the city centre, a stone’s throw from the Gaslamp District, Little Italy and the large Horton Plaza shopping centre. The school is renowned for its academic excellence, accredited by highly glowing inspection reports.

English course
20 English lessons per week
- Length of lesson: 45 minutes
- Number of students per class: maximum 15
- Timetable: lessons take place in the morning
- Placement test: on the first day of the course
- Certificate of attendance at the end of the course
- Weekly progress assessment
- All teachers are university graduates (BA or Master) with specific training in teaching their mother tongue to foreigners
- Levels offered: beginner to advanced
As well as language classes, students take part in a full programme of cultural, sporting and leisure activities.
The programme includes :
- 4 half-days of activities per week
- 1 half-day of free time during the week (Wednesday) and 1 day at the weekend (Sunday)
- 1 day excursion per weekend (Saturday)*
*Students who go on a 3-week course take part in 2 excursions, those who go on a 4-week course take part in 3 excursions, etc.
Examples of possible activities:
Afternoon activities: Visit to San Diego’s Old Town, the zoo, the State University, Balboa Park and Museum, harbour cruise, sports and relaxation on the beach, bowling, shopping, baseball game…
Day trips: Los Angeles, SeaWorld, …
Surfing option
San Diego and California are popular surfing destinations, so the school offers a surfing option, supervised by experienced instructors. Equipment and surfboards are provided on site and are included in the price.
2 options to choose from:
- The Surf package including: 3 afternoons of surfing per week (at a rate of 1h30/afternoon): Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. These surf sessions replace the activities organised by the school. The rest of the week, participants take part in activities organised by the school with the other students.
- A 90-minute surfing session: organised during free time on Wednesday afternoons

Host family
Shared room, shared bathroom and full board except on Saturdays.
Families are located within a 45-minute radius of the school by bus or trolley (tram).
Practical information :
- Bed linen and towels provided.
- Free Wi-Fi access in most families.
- The family provides its own washing machine free of charge when it has one. However, some families do their laundry in the shared laundry room, in which case the machines are coin-operated.
- From Monday to Friday, lunch is provided by the school.
