English Programme in Malta
English is one of the two official languages of the island, inherited from two centuries of British colonisation. Malta is definitely the ideal compromise between a relaxing, leisurely holiday and an efficient language learning programme.
Malta offers a Mediterranean climate, a clear blue sea, a rich history, picturesque villages, colourful landscapes but also many cafes and restaurants for a lively nightlife.
Every year from April to September, the school welcomes young students aged 13 to 17 from all over the world. The programme includes 20 English lessons per week as well as a full programme of excursions and supervised morning, afternoon and evening activities. To be able to join this programme, participants must have studied English for at least one school year.

Founded in 1985, our partner IELS welcomes students from all over the world and offers an international atmosphere in their two different schools located in two different places:
- Pembroke (from July 01 to August 08 for Homestay or “Club Residence”): small town located on the East Coast of the isle surrounded by impressive historical remains and offering a luxuriant nature. The place is also renowned to be one of the best spot for diving.
- Sliema (for other periods and/or other types of accommodation): cosmopolitan seaside resort located 5 km from the capital Valetta and right next to the seafront promenade of St-Julian district with numerous restaurants, bars, cafés and clubs very popular upon evenings.
The school buildings have bright, air conditioned classrooms, a library, a cafeteria and an Internet café enabling students to stay in touch with their family and friends throughout their stay. Wifi access and the Internet café are placed at the students’ disposal.
The schools are member of FELTOM, an association approved by the Maltese Ministry of Education.
Students follow a programme of 20 lessons (45 minutes each) of English per week, Monday to Friday, mornings or afternoons.
Lessons take place in an International atmosphere aiming to improve English language skills through conversation (role-plays, discussions, etc.), listening and reading exercises and some writing tasks adapted to the participants’ ages.
In groups for advanced students, participants are introduced to politics, culture or other relevant current topics.
Students will take a placement test upon arrival and will be placed in their appropriate level class, from Beginner to Advanced. Each class has a maximum of 15 students.
Supervised activities
Per week:
- 3 half-day sports or cultural activities: guided tour of Valetta, outing to Mdina, cinema, theatre creation, beach-volley, football, beach games…
- Evening activities (daily): welcome night, disco, barbecue, karaoke, foam party…
Optional activities at extra cost (registration on site): excursion to Gozo, Malta National Aquarium, Explore Science Museum, etc.
All activities and organised evenings are supervised by the school staff .

Spring & Autumn
Summer
3 bedded (sometimes 4 bedded) room, shared bathroom, full board included
All our host families are carefully selected by the school staff. They are all native English speakers and provide students with the best possible opportunity to practice their English in a warm atmosphere and authentic environment.
Travel time to school: most of the host families live in residential areas located about 30 minutes walk from the schools. Students hosted by families living more than a 30 minutes travel from school will benefit from a private transport provided by IELS.
Practical information:
- Bed linen and bath towels are provided
- Laundry is provided (generally with the self use of the washing machine once a week or on special laundry days)
Different residences are available, all located within a short walking or local transport distance from the schools. Students are allocated in different residences according to both availability and their age.
Club Residence
Shared accommodation (3 or 4 beds per room), full board included
Travel time to school: this residence is located about a 30 minutes travel from the school by public transport.
Practical information:
- All rooms are air-conditioned with private facilities.
- Bed linen and bath towels provided
- Laundry available (at extra cost)
A €50 refundable security deposit will be required on arrival and refunded at the end of the stay providing there is no evidence of damage to the room and premises.
Centre Residence
Shared accommodation (3 or 4 beds per room), full board included
Travel time to school: this residence is located very close to the school (within 5 minutes walking distance maximum).
Practical information:
- All rooms are air-conditioned with private facilities.
- Bed linen and bath towels provided
- Laundry available (at extra cost)
A €50 refundable security deposit will be required on arrival and refunded at the end of the stay providing there is no evidence of damage to the room and premises.
Travel
- Arrival Airport: Malta International Airport (MLA)
- Round trip transfer included from airport to accommodation and return
When booking your flights, make sure to arrive either on Sunday prior to course start and to leave on the Sunday following the end of the course, or to arrive on Saturday prior to course start and to leave on the Saturday following the end of the course .

Bank holidays (no lessons will take place nor be made up on the following dates): April 07, June 29 and August 15.
