English course in Oxford

Located in the south of England, about an hour from London, Oxford is a charming city with a population of 154,000. Welcoming around 40,000 students a year, Oxford is undoubtedly one of the most famous university cities in the world.

Combining learning, recreation and linguistic and cultural immersion, this formula enables rapid progress in English by offering students aged 12 to 17 a fun and enjoyable experience in a friendly environment.

Located on the same campus as a renowned secondary school (Magdalen College School), our partner school is right in Oxford city centre. The premises are modern, very well located and have their own sports facilities. The school welcomes between 200 and 300 students every week.

English courses: general information

  • Length of lesson: 60 minutes
  • Maximum number of students per class: 15 (average 12)
  • Mix of nationalities: over 30 nationalities (few French speakers)
  • Timetable: lessons are given alternately, one week in the mornings (from 9.30am to 1pm), one week in the afternoons (from 2pm to 5.30pm) with a 30-minute break.
  • Level test: on enrolment and on the first day of the course (oral part)
  • Certificate of attendance at the end of the course attesting to the level achieved
  • Daily homework
  • Teachers are qualified to teach their language to foreigners

Course formula

Standard course: 15 hours of English per week, plus additional activities or lessons (see options below).

The courses enable young people to develop fluency and confidence. Teaching focuses on the 4 basic skills of written and oral expression, listening comprehension and reading. Topics relating to the history and culture of the sites visited during the excursions are also covered in the lessons, so that everyone can make the most of their visit. Students also take part in group work, which they can take home at the end of their stay.

Levels offered: beginner (A2) to advanced. Complete beginners are not accepted.

Examples of activities – Per week :

  • 1 half-day visit to Oxford and the surrounding area: Oxford Castle, Warwick Castle (medieval and one of the best preserved), punting, visit to Blenheim Palace, residence of the Duke of Marlbourough.
  • 4 half-days of sports and recreational activities (14.30-16.00) on campus: a visit to Christ Church College (where Harry Potter was filmed), a visit to the Natural History Museum, Cotswold Wildlife Park, bowling, treasure hunt in Oxford, theatre workshop, quiz on Oxford universities followed by a climb to Carfax Tower with its impressive view of the city or 4 half-days of tennis (lessons and practice with qualified coaches)
  • 1 day excursion: London (guided tour of Buckingham Palace, Westminster, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and Covent Garden), Bath (entrance to the Roman Baths, walk in the centre including Royal Crescent and Pultney Bridge), Brighton (guided walk, visit to the Royal Pavilion and Brighton Pier)
  • 7 parties (7.30-9.30 p.m.) on campus: quiz, disco, karaoke, barbecue.
  • 2 evenings with the group when staying with a family

Optional activities on Sundays (at extra cost, between £25 and £55): London (shopping day with free time in the best shopping areas), London (Madame Tussauds and the London Eye), Windsor (visit to Windsor Castle, the royal residence).

Shared room with a student of another nationality, shared bathroom, full board

Travel time to school: families are located in the residential areas of Cowley, Kidlington and Headington, between 15 and 25 minutes by public transport. Some families are located within walking distance of the school. On the first day, the family will explain and show the nearest bus stop and which bus number to take to get to the school/centre.

Practical information:

  • Bed linen and towels provided
  • Possibility of doing your own washing (the family will usually provide a washing machine once a week or will let you know when the washing is done)
  • Meals are typically English. Morning and evening meals are taken with the family, while lunch is prepared by the family and taken to school.

Visa information

Autorisation de sortie de territoire pour les mineurs

L’autorisation de sortie du territoire est obligatoire pour les mineurs non accompagnés par une personne détentrice de l’autorité parentale. Elle doit être présentée par le mineur aux frontières, accompagnée de ses documents d’identité (passeport ou carte d’identité) ainsi que d’une photocopie de la carte d’identité de l’un de ses parents.

Belges – moins de 18 ans

Lorsqu’un mineur voyage à l’étranger seul ou accompagné d’une personne autre que ses parents, il est nécessaire d’obtenir une autorisation parentale confirmant l’accord des parents pour le voyage concerné.

Ce document peut être obtenu auprès de votre commune.

Français – moins de 18 ans

L’autorisation de sortie du territoire pour un mineur non accompagné par une personne détentrice de l’autorité parentale a été rétablie depuis le 15 janvier 2017. Les formulaires d’AST sont disponibles sur le site du Service Public.

Le mineur non accompagné doit donc présenter les trois documents suivants :

  • son document d’identité : carte d’identité ou passeport ;
  • l’AST signée par l’un des parents détenteur de l’autorité parentale ;
  • une photocopie du document d’identité du parent signataire.

Conditions d’entrée pour un séjour inférieur à 6 mois

Pour les séjours de courte durée au Royaume-Uni, les voyageurs qui n’ont pas besoin de visa doivent généralement obtenir une ETA – Electronic Travel Authorisation avant leur départ.

L’ETA est une autorisation électronique de voyage liée au passeport du voyageur. Elle concerne notamment les séjours jusqu’à 6 mois pour du tourisme, une visite familiale, certaines activités professionnelles autorisées ou des études de courte durée. Elle peut également être demandée pour certains transits par le Royaume-Uni.

Informations importantes

  • L’ETA est obligatoire pour les voyageurs concernés qui se rendent au Royaume-Uni sans visa.
  • Elle est liée électroniquement au passeport utilisé pour la demande.
  • Elle reste valable pendant une durée déterminée par les autorités britanniques, tant que le passeport associé est encore valide.
  • Elle peut permettre d’effectuer plusieurs visites au Royaume-Uni pendant sa période de validité.
  • Elle ne garantit pas l’entrée sur le territoire britannique.
  • La demande se fait en ligne ou via l’application officielle UK ETA.
  • Le passeport est requis pour effectuer la demande et pour voyager.
  • Les frais de demande sont fixés par les autorités britanniques et peuvent évoluer à tout moment. Ils restent à la charge du participant et/ou de ses représentants légaux.

Conditions d’obtention du visa (tous programmes) :

  • disposer d’un passeport valide ;
  • fournir une Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) ou une confirmation d’inscription transmise par l’école partenaire, selon le type de visa ;
  • être en mesure de prouver que vous disposez de fonds suffisants pour couvrir vos frais pendant le séjour au Royaume-Uni ;
  • payer les frais liés à la demande de visa et, le cas échéant, toute contribution obligatoire imposée par les autorités britanniques, comme l’Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) ;
  • fournir les documents demandés par les autorités britanniques dans le cadre de la demande.

Pour les étudiants effectuant un programme scolaire en école secondaire/boarding school :

Les étudiants qui effectuent un programme scolaire de plus de 6 mois dans une école secondaire indépendante peuvent devoir introduire une demande de Child Student Visa ou de Student Visa, selon leur âge et le type de programme.

Il pourra notamment être demandé de :

  • fournir une Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) transmise par l’école partenaire ;
  • justifier d’un niveau d’anglais suffisant, si demandé par l’école ou les autorités britanniques ;
  • prouver que les frais de scolarité et de vie peuvent être couverts pendant le séjour ;
  • pour les étudiants mineurs : fournir le consentement écrit du parent ou tuteur légal pour étudier au Royaume-Uni, ainsi que les documents relatifs aux conditions d’accueil et de logement sur place.

Pour les étudiants effectuant un séjour linguistique en école de langue :

Les étudiants qui effectuent un séjour linguistique de plus de 6 mois peuvent devoir introduire une demande de visa spécifique, selon la durée et le type de cours.

Pour les séjours d’anglais de plus de 6 mois et jusqu’à 11 mois, les autorités britanniques prévoient notamment le Short-term Study Visa pour les cours d’anglais. Les conditions exactes doivent être vérifiées sur le site officiel GOV.UK avant toute inscription.

Pour les étudiants mineurs, une autorisation parentale et des documents relatifs aux conditions d’accueil au Royaume-Uni peuvent être demandés.

Frais de visa

Les frais liés à la demande de visa, aux services associés, aux éventuelles démarches biométriques et aux contributions obligatoires imposées par les autorités britanniques ne sont pas inclus dans le prix du séjour, sauf mention contraire explicite.

Ces frais sont fixés par les autorités britanniques et peuvent évoluer à tout moment. Ils restent à la charge du participant et/ou de ses représentants légaux.
