Intensive Dutch Course in Belgium

CERAN’s Intensive Dutch Programme for Juniors & Teens uses its unique teaching methods to teach students to communicate with confidence. CERAN’s teachers are all experienced and qualified native Dutch speakers, specially trained to help students progress quickly and reach their language goals. Campers are supervised and supported in and outside of classes, and encouraged to speak Dutch at all times and as much as possible (including class breaks and meals).

Campers are grouped according to their age: 9-11 years old12-15 years old and 16-17 years old. Class sizes have an average of 6 students (maximum 9) per class.

CERAN assesses campers’ progress using the following system:

  • Online Dutch test prior to departure
  • Speaking assessment on the first day
  • Linguistic Skills Assessment at the end of their stay

CERAN Quality

Leader in training and intensive language programmes since 1975, CERAN has offered individually tailored and top-quality immersion programmes to learners worldwide, from young students to professionals. It offers a broad range of programmes specially designed for maximum language progress, whatever your learning style may be.

SPA: Located in the heart of an historic area, the campus is composed of several buildings all dedicated to the learning of a particular language, called “immersion spaces”. There are several training rooms (courses and workshops), a dining room where all meals are shared in Dutch and a lounge where you can keep practicing during breaks, but also many sports areas and grounds for those who want to relax “actively”, thanks to the multi-sports fields, the tennis and “petanque” courts, and the squash fields.

FERRIERES: In the township of Ferrières, (province of Liege), the students are hosted in Collège Saint Roch, a magnificent 17th century historical building. Only 30 minutes from Liège and 5 km from Ferrières, an exceptional landscape of green nature await the young learners.

Several independent immersion spaces, each with training rooms, a multimedia room, a dining room and a relaxation room, are available to the young residents. They will also be able to benefit from :

  • a heated indoor pool
  • a soccer field
  • a mini soccer field
  • a multi-sports hall
  • two beach volleyball courts
  • three badminton courts
  • two mini tennis courts
  • a petanque court
  • a table tennis room

The schools also have two multimedia spaces and an international lounge for all learners to meet and interact.

The students are divided into age groups of 9 to 11, 12 to 15 and 16 to 17 years old, into classes of an average of six participants (maximum of nine).

In order for you to be able to realize your child’s progress, the school uses an effective evaluation system through :

  • an online Dutch assessment test before arrival at the centre
  • an evaluation of the student’s oral expression ability made by the teacher from the very first lessons
  • a language proficiency assessment taken at the end of the stay

Each week includes :

  • 28 Dutch lessons of 45 minutes in small groups (21 hours)
  • 19 sessions of 60 minutes of supervised recreational activities
  • a half-day excursion or recreational activity on Wednesday afternoon

The lessons focus on :

  • oral comprehension
  • oral expression: role-playing (telling a story, giving a presentation, qualifying an opinion, taking part in a debate, etc.) in which the teacher emphasises the grammar rules and vocabulary to be retained
  • written comprehension: understanding, analysing and synthesising written information
  • written expression: writing summaries, comments, letters; expressing an opinion, developing an argument, organising lecture notes

This programme is available to those aged 12 and over.

Does your child have any particular gaps? Would he or she like to focus on specialised vocabulary? You also have the possibility of combining the group programme with private lessons for a more personalised learning experience.

Each week includes :

  • 28 Dutch lessons of 45 minutes in small groups (21 hours)

  • two days of off-site excursions on Saturdays and Sundays, for stays of two weeks or more
