Why Canada ?

Canada is the second-largest country in the world and is renowned for its remarkable geographical diversity. But it’s primarily a destination filled with advantages for those who wish to study there:

  • High quality of life and standard of living among the highest in the world.
  • Education system recognized for its excellence and compatibility with European systems.
  • Friendliness and hospitality of its population.
  • Cultural richness.
  • Safe environment and magnificent landscapes.

The United States and Canada are vast countries where geographic distances are significant. Cars are the primary mode of transportation, and public transportation networks are generally less developed, except in some major cities. International students coming from Europe, where public transportation networks are more advanced, may need to adapt to this difference when studying in North America and may need to reconsider their transportation habits by planning their routes based on the available transportation options.

Located approximately 45 minutes southeast of Vancouver, right on the border of the United States, the city of Langley is nestled by the Pacific Ocean and boasts spectacular landscapes. With a population of around 100,000 inhabitants, the Langley district offers both an urban environment with numerous shops and diverse attractions, and lush greenery as one moves towards the south or east. Students will immerse themselves in a typical Canadian and English-speaking environment.

Schools

Some schools accommodate a small number of students for personalized attention, while others are much larger, with up to 1650 students, boasting well-equipped campuses.

In each institution, there is a team of counselors and tutors who provide ongoing support to students, along with international coordinators who advise students on all aspects of their stay. Teachers and school staff are highly attentive to each student to help them achieve their goals.

Courses

You can select 5 to 8 subjects from those taught at the school.

In most Canadian schools, the choice of subjects is vast: business, science, tourism, technology arts, psychology, maths, physics, chemistry, softball, curling, management, visual arts, theatre, photography…

This is a unique opportunity to discover new subjects or to specialize in a particular area. You are entirely free to choose the courses that interest you provided they are available. Indeed, some courses are only offered in the first semester, while others are in the second. It is also possible that a course may be full.

You can also follow a specific English as a Foreign Language program to address any potential gaps.

In any case, a counselor or tutor will be available to assist you in organizing your work.

Canadian youth typically undergo a minimum of 12 years of schooling, similar to our system. This program offers foreign students the opportunity to attend a local public high school. In the Canadian province of British Columbia, secondary education spans 5 years, from Grade 8 to Grade 12.

The school year is divided into two semesters. As a foreign student, you can join a class for either one semester or a full academic year.

There are two different schooling systems in Canada: the semester system and the linear system. The semester system involves taking 4 courses in the first semester and another 4 courses in the second semester, whereas in the linear system, students take 8 courses throughout the year.

In many Canadian schools, there is a wide selection of subjects available. This presents a unique opportunity to explore new areas of study or to enhance skills in a preferred subject.

Some courses are offered for just one semester, giving students the option to switch subjects midway through the year.

The choices are equally significant in sports, cultural, and social activities. School will be a unique opportunity to flourish in unfamiliar subjects and activities. Moreover, it will be a perfect opportunity to integrate into Canadian life and get to know peers of your age.

Canadians are known for their hospitality, tolerance, and open-mindedness.

Families are carefully selected by the accommodation service of the district for their genuine desire to welcome a young foreigner and share their culture through daily life. This service visits the homes of families and ensures that they can provide the participant with a balanced and welcoming environment.

There is no typical family profile. Each one is unique and reflects the society and lifestyle of the country you have chosen. The family that will host you may have children or not; they may be a blended family or a single-parent family, a single person whose children no longer live at home, retirees, or younger individuals. It is not the composition of the family that matters but its availability and motivation to share its culture with you.

Families reside in the residential area of Langley.

The local coordinator is an experienced member of staff who knows the host families and is in regular contact with the students and their host parents throughout the duration of the programme. They regularly organise meetings to ensure that your experience is going smoothly, both with your host family and at school. Your local coordinator is on hand to lend assistance in case any should arise, and are your first point of contact on the ground.

Our partner organisation’s local coordinators are all experienced and fully qualified to assist international students on the ground, offering support and assistance quickly and efficiently should any issues present themselves.

An emergency number will be given to you to use in case of any emergencies.

To ensure that your stay goes smoothly and that you are well informed about the various elements of the program, you will have the opportunity to attend an information and orientation meeting organized by Easy Languages in Brussels, at the end of May / beginning of June. This meeting allows Easy Languages students to meet and exchange questions and experiences with each other and with the Easy Languages team. It is also during this meeting that the final administrative formalities are launched.

If you do not reside in Belgium, we can organize an online connection for you to attend the meeting live.

A second orientation takes place in Canada within 15 days of your arrival. You will be contacted by your local correspondent, who will be able to answer all your questions regarding your stay and its progress.

Travel

Departures are typically scheduled for late August/early September for stays of one semester to one school year. A departure is also planned for late January/early February for one-semester stays. At the airport, you will be greeted by the Beaton’s Meet & Greet service, who will take you directly to your host family.

Once the registration is accepted and confirmed by our Canadian partner and your study permit application is approved, if applicable, we can arrange to book your trip to Canada if you wish.

The booked ticket includes the fewest possible layovers and is changeable.

In case of changes, airline change fees apply (these vary depending on the airline, usually around €200) + any difference in fare class.

If you prefer to book your trip yourself, we will provide you with all the necessary information to proceed with the reservation.
